Biography

Alfonso Ossorio was a Filipino American abstract expressionist artist born to wealthy parents Maria Paz Yangco and Miguel José Ossorio. He moved to the United States in 1930 and spent most of his working life in New York City, becoming a significant figure in the post-war American art scene.

Notable information

• Studied at Harvard University

• Close friend of Jackson Pollock and Jean Dubuffet

• Known for combining abstract expressionism with surrealist elements

• Created both paintings and assemblages

• Established The Creeks, his famous art-filled estate in East Hampton
